On this day in 2015, AvatarMC first opened to the public. That means that today is our 10th birthday!
Hopefully, some of you reading this were there on that day 10 years ago. If you've stuck around for that long, thank you!
We couldn't let this very special occasion pass by without some recognition, so be on the lookout for some events and releases over the following weeks, as we indulge ourselves in some well-earned celebration.
We want to thank anyone who has either enjoyed the server as a player or has helped us out as a team member over the years. We hope it has been as fun for you as it has for us.
If you've not played on the server for a little while, why not take a trip down memory lane and log on? Who knows, maybe that town you made in your first week hasn't been looted!
As part of our 10 year celebrations, we are inviting you all to share some of your favourite AvatarMC memories.
We have opened a new #10th-anniversary-memories
channel on our Discord server for you to reminisce about the good times. We will look to immortalise these in a separate blog post for all eternity!
We are also running a competition for you to share your best screenshot from the server. This can be a favourite view of your capital, the best angle of your hard-built town, or a group shot of you and your friends.
Please create a new post in the #10th-anniversary-competition
channel to submit your entry. Although not a requirement, we encourage you to share a fun story about your image! If you decide to upload multiple photos, please note which single photo is your submission entry.
Submissions will be accepted January 17–31, and we will be handing out some prizes to our favourites.
Happy snapping!
The server has been shaped by many events over the years, and we could never hope to summarise it all. Fortunately, we don't have to! We've reviewed past blogposts and pulled out some noteworthy server milestones.
In addition, the events of AvatarMC have been extensively documented and archived by Order of the Golden Lotus member, the wonderful, Evie. She has collated all of this into a document known as War and Memes - A History of AvatarMC.
We're sure that reading through the timeline and the War and Memes document will spark some memories for older players and will hopefully show newer players what the server was like at its very peak. And, who knows, maybe one day we can return to all that fun and nonsense again!
Disclaimer: Some of the links and images in War and Memes may be broken. Please also be aware that the contents of the document are, at the end of the day, just a bit of fun!
